What is the full form of CAT?

The Common Admission Test is the full name of the exam. IIM uses the Computer-Aided Technical Assessment (CAT) to create a shortlist of applicants for its postgraduate program. The test has three sections.

  • VARC (Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension)

  • DILR (Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning) and

  • QA(Quantitative Ability)

The three hours of the online exam are divided into one hour for each section. The Indian Management Institutes, or IIMs, launched this exam and are using it to choose applicants for a range of postgraduate and fellow/doctoral degree courses. Every year, the CAT exam is administered.

Brief history of CAT test

  • In August 2011, it was declared that starting with the 2012–15 batch, candidates for management programs at IITs (Indian Institutes of Technology) and IISc (Indian Institute of Science) would be chosen based on their CAT scores rather than their JMET (Joint Management Entrance Test) results.

  • All candidates had to take the paper-based CAT exam every day until 2009.

  • Over time, there have been notable changes in the pattern, quantity, and duration of difficulties.

  • It was announced on May 1, 2009, that the CAT would be a computer-based exam.

  • A mock examination was provided for the 2018 CAT.

  • CAT is a computer-based exam consisting of three parts: verbal and Reading Comprehension, Data Interpretation and logical Reasoning, and QA.

  • The divisions on QA and VARC each had 34 questions, while the portion on DI & LR had 32 problems.

  • The distribution of questions has remained the same since CAT 2015. Before this, questions were presented differently.
