Describe a person who solved a problem in a smart way - sample answer 1

Introduction

Everyone faces challenges in their lives, and coping with them demands great courage and patience. I'd like to discuss an incident where my friend wisely tackled a challenge.

Who is this person?

Her name is Samvi. She is a computer engineer with exceptional innovative and problem-solving abilities. She is really kind and friendly, always willing to assist her friends and neighbours. I recall an incident from a year ago when she easily resolved one difficult situation.

What the problem was?

Last year, I and a group of friends went on a trip to watch Kempty Falls in Mussoorie. Unfortunately, we had an accident on our way back home. Thankfully, we did not get any injuries, but there was a massive dent in the car, so large that my parents would never let me touch the car keys again.

How did he/she solve it?

She called a few car service agents, but they were all quite far away, making the issue problematic. Fortunately, she suggested splashing hot water over the dent. This miraculously resolved the issue; when we returned home, there was no prominent evidence of the accident.

And explain why you think he/ she did it in a smart way.

To be honest, she could have easily lost her composure, but she kept calm. Instead of going to a car service, she fixed the problem in 40 minutes. Furthermore, she remained calm and composed in stressful situations, and her smart skills allowed her to solve the problem quickly and smartly.

Conclusion

Well, I was terrified and clenched my hands. However, her calm, collected handling of the situation taught me a valuable life lesson.

Describe a person who solved a problem in a smart way - sample answer 2

Introduction

Everybody has faced problems in their life at least once. However, some people have excellent mental clarity and can tackle difficulties without worrying.

Who is this person?

Here, I'd like to talk about my aunt Jyoti, who brilliantly handled a difficult situation very smartly.

What the problem was?

I recall it being around 1 month ago. A few guests were coming to our house, and my mother was making lunch for them. As my mother was seasoning the curry, the box of salt slipped from her grasp, and a large amount of salt dropped into the dish. My mother panicked since she hadn't prepared anything else, and it was already lunchtime.

How did he/she solve it?

My aunt entered the kitchen when she noticed my mother was upset. She advised my mother not to panic and suggested a solution. She kneaded some dough and added 3 to 4 balls to the curry. After around 15 minutes, she removed those balls and requested my mother try the curry. The meal no longer contained any excess salt.

And explain why you think he/ she did it in a smart way.

My mother would have been unable to resolve this issue on her own. She had begun to believe that the entire curry meal would have to be discarded and cooked from scratch. But my aunt resolved a problem in a very smart way.

Describe a person who solved a problem in a smart way - sample answer 3

Introduction

Problems are a part of everyday existence. Everyone has troubles at some point. These issues may be professional, personal, or financial in nature. Often, we can resolve these challenges on our own. However, there are situations when we may need to seek assistance. Today, I'd like to talk about a situation in which I became stranded, and one of my friends saved me.

Who is this person?

This person is Vishal, and he used to be my roommate during the three years I was in the university dormitory. While both of us were studying electrical engineering, he was also an accomplished computer programmer. He was so tech-savvy that he could resolve any computer-related issues in minutes.

What the problem was?

I was scheduled to give a presentation in the college auditorium during last year's midterm exam. I spent more than two days working on the slides because the department head would score my presentation. However, when I wanted to review my slides at the last minute, I realised I lost all the data. I became quite upset, trembled with nerves, and had no idea what to do next.

How did he/she solve it?

Vishal noticed my fear and came rushing towards me. When he questioned about the cause of my concern, I swiftly stated my predicament. He advised me to relax and handed me some water. He also told me that he could resolve the situation quickly, which he did. He retrieved backup from the master drive and restored the presentation.

And explain why you think he/ she did it in a smart way.

In retrospect, if Vishal hadn't assisted me, I would have been unable to give my presentation. Furthermore, I would have wasted the entire day reconstructing the slides. Vishal’s ability to assist me demonstrated his intelligence, fast thinking, and mental clarity.

Conclusion

Overall, I am very grateful to my friend Vishal and very glad he came up with the smart idea at a crucial moment, saving me big time.

IELTS Speaking Part 3 - Follow Up Questions

Question: Do you think children are born smart, or do they learn to become smart?

Answer: If you ask me, I believe no one is born with talent; instead, everyone grows throughout their lives. Youngsters don’t have many real-life experiences in the initial stages of life. But once they are out of their shell, they become capable of facing various life problems, thus learning to become intelligent and capable of dealing with any situation.

Question: Why does modern society need talent of all kinds?

Answer: Modern civilisation requires talent of all types because it is the greatest way to have a comprehensive and skilled workforce and build a better society. If everyone were good at science and became physicians, no one would become an author, teacher, or businessperson. So, for a fulfilled life, society needs people with different skills.

Question: Why are some people well-rounded and others only good at one thing?

Answer: The answer to this question is the difference in exposure and real-life experience individuals receive. Two people from the same background but with distinct experiences have vastly different opinions. Even before entering the actual world, they have practised dealing with various situations. Certain people have already faced so many different life situations that they automatically become well-rounded. Certain people don't fall into so many situations, so they focus on only one thing and become good at it.

Question: How can we assist youngsters in realising their potential?

Answer: The first step is to recognise their strengths. In many cases, this is not an easy task. Then, it's a matter of ensuring that children get the support and resources they need to explore and develop their skills fully. Also, schools must be able to provide students with equipment, resources, or facilities that they do not have at home or that their parents cannot provide.

Question: How do children become smart at school?

Answer: Children's participation in academics, extracurricular activities, sports, and other activities makes them well-rounded, smart individuals. Engaging in different activities requires children to work hard, pay attention, lead a team, and engage with people on many levels, making them brilliant and multi-talented children.
