Describe an occasion when you lost your way - sample answer 1

Introduction

I once travelled 10 kms from home for a job interview, which was a very hectic day. However, I got lost on the way back and was terrified.

What happened?

During a period of job uncertainty and stress about my career, I faced a significant setback when I lost my job. At that time, I received an opportunity for an interview from a company called Etsy, located in the RIICO Industrial Area, which was quite distant from my house. Despite my concerns, I decided to attend the interview.

The interview process was lengthy and intense, and my stress level was high, leading to a severe headache. By the time I finished the interview and started my journey back home around 6 o'clock in the evening, I found myself driving through entirely unfamiliar surroundings.

How did you realise you were lost? And what steps did you take to find your way?

Just after some time, I was driving back home when I found some very unfamiliar roads, and suddenly, I failed to recognise which place it was. So, as I continued driving on the road, I got scared and reached some unknown landmarks. I gathered up some courage and relied on my phone’s GPS. After some time, I was able to understand the route and eventually found my way back home.

How did you eventually find your way back?

I got really frustrated after I got off-track. Eventually, after I got to rely on maps, I also asked a few people for the route. I then felt quite relieved to be back on track, and after all this struggle, I finally happened to reach my destination.

Conclusion

Well, it actually made me realise how important it is to be prepared and rely on technology during unfamiliar journeys, as well as the importance of remaining calm in challenging situations.

Describe an occasion when you lost your way - sample answer 2

Introduction

During my stay in Hong Kong last year, I developed an interest in outdoor sports, notably hiking. One unforgettable experience was when my buddies and I tried a difficult walk up Lion Mountain despite being inexperienced hikers with inadequate equipment.

What happened?

We set out on a 6-hour climb on Lion Mountain, relying simply on a simple map and carrying only small water bottles, lacking vital gear such as first aid supplies and a compass.

How did you realise you were lost? And what steps did you take to find your way?

We realised we might not be on the right path as we continued along the route because of all the confusing pathways and crossroads we came across. This realisation was exacerbated by the discovery of a dead end and an unexpected encounter with aggressive monkeys. We quickly retraced our steps, feeling disoriented and scared.

We used our phones to find our way back but had signal problems. Finally, we were fortunate to meet two experienced hikers on the same trail who assisted us with patience and kindness.

How did you eventually find your way back?

With the help of the more seasoned hikers, my friends and I could reach the end of our hike safely and complete the trail successfully.

Conclusion

The occasion was a great way to learn how important it is to be prepared and responsible when engaging in outdoor activities. The time spent with the monkeys and subsequent assistance from experienced hikers revealed the importance of careful planning for any outdoor adventure.

Describe an occasion when you lost your way - sample answer 3

Introduction

While I generally have a good sense of direction, there was one time when I became completely confused while riding my bike through the countryside.

What happened?

I had planned a relaxing bike ride through the lovely scenery of Green Valley, which was a little bit farther from my house. I wanted to enjoy the fantastic routes and explore new places on two wheels.

How did you realise you were lost? What steps did you take to find your way?

I took a few turns onto paths known by few people and soon realised I had deviated from familiar routes. The situation became more difficult because I didn't bring a map or GPS device, assuming the rural area would be easy to navigate. My phone's lack of signal for navigation made matters worse.

When I realised I was lost, I followed my route back to the last identifiable landmark and made an effort to find myself by looking for signs in the environment, like the sun's position and the pattern of the terrain. I kept my cool and concentrated on returning even though my uncertainty grew.

How did you eventually find your way back?

After some experimenting, I eventually found a main road that led back to a well-known location. It was a relief to finally find familiar surroundings and move in the right direction.

Conclusion

The incident showed the importance of proper preparation before taking part in outdoor activities. In the future, I'll make sure to bring a map or GPS device and notify someone of my route, resulting in a safer and more enjoyable adventure.
