English proficiency test to take admission in USA Universities

US is proudly hosting various top universities in the world. The Universities are famous for providing a world-class education to students to help them excel in their careers. Also, the Universities in US offer a myriad of courses at undergraduate as well as graduate levels. 

The students who wish to study in US Universities generally, have to appear for any of the English proficiency Tests. A few English Proficiency tests that are conducted to check the English language proficiency of students who wish to move to US for the purpose of education are mentioned below:

IELTS

The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is one of the world’s most popular tests which is widely accepted by most of US Universities. The students who are going to US for studies will have to appear for IELTS Academic Exam. This test aims to test the student’s proficiency in the English language in four areas, namely listening, reading, writing, and speaking. The score of every category is rated on a band of 9. The one-time registration fee for this test is USD 250. The IELTS score is valid for 2 years. If the students are going for graduate courses in US Universities then, they should score a minimum of 6.5 bands. Whereas, if the students are going for the Undergraduate courses, then they will have to score a minimum 6 band or an overall 5.5. 

TOEFL

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is a high-quality English proficiency test, which is widely accepted by US Universities. There are four sections in this test: Reading, Listening, Writing, and Speaking. The marks of the TOEFL is valid for 2 years. The fees of TOEFL may vary from country to country from $200 to $250. If the students are going for graduate courses in US Universities then, they should score minimum 90 marks. Whereas, if the students are going for Undergraduate courses, then they will have to score between 80-85 marks in TOFEL. 

Duolingo

Duolingo is accepted by 70% of the US universities. The test results of this test gets available in just 48 hours. It is comparably easier than the other tests like IELTS, TOEFL, etc. you can appear for this test online with the comfort of your home. The fees for Duolingo is approx. USD 50 and is valid for 2 years.  If the students are going for graduate courses in US Universities then, they should score minimum 110 marks. Whereas, if the students are going for Undergraduate courses, then they will have to score minimum 105 marks in Duolingo.

PTE

Pearson Test of English (PTE) is accepted by 50% to 60% of the US Universities. The students who are going to US for studies will have to appear for PTE Academic Exam. The fees for this exam is approx. USD 170 and is valid for 2 years. If the students are going for graduate courses in US Universities then, they should score minimum 56 marks for both undergraduate and graduate courses in PTE.

Moreover, there are few universities in USA which accepts the application of the students on the basis of MOI (medium of instruction). And the percentage required in MOI varies from university to university.
