The Future of Work in Media: Artificial Intelligence Impact

We'll be talking about media and communication automation today. We'll talk about media vs. automation, the various ways automation is used in the media industry, and the implications and opportunities that can result from that.

AI in media houses and organizations:

This ongoing need for knowledge necessitated media houses and organizations to come up with new means of delivering it. It was at this point when automated journalists were brought into the picture. As a result, both small and large organizations employ automated journalists and other forms of journalism software and technology. A slew of well-known names like BBC, Forbes, The Guardian and even companies we use every day like Facebook, Apple, Google, Amazon and Microsoft are examples of the many corporations we have at our disposal.

As a matter of fact, they employ a variety of artificial intelligence technologies to assist them in their daily operations. As a result, robot journalists and artificial intelligence are becoming increasingly common in a wide range of fields, including the media and communications sector. So, what are the current uses of AI in the media today?

Computer Science is the source of the entire artificial intelligence component. To put it simply, before your artificially intelligent robot system can generate an article for you or perform a certain activity for you, they need to learn how to deal with the data that they have access to.

Use of data sets:

You first need to gather data, and then you teach the machine to give the results you desire. You've created a template from which it can learn how to perform the task at hand. What if you wished, for example, to learn the difference between an original photograph and an image that has been taken from somewhere else? To test the artificial intelligence system and determine whether it truly understands what you've taught it, you can use a new data set. After that, the system will go through a machine learning procedure and then anticipate something, like this manipulated image. It can tell if what you asked it to perform was what you desired, and if so, it will send it back to you for evaluation.

In the media and communication industries, AI has had the following effects:

Human journalists have lost their jobs as a result of the digital revolution. However, there has been creation of new jobs as well.

As per a few experts, this degrades the quality of writing and editing work, and also plays a role in devaluing media labor. Moreover, they believe, robots and AI diminishes the creativity aspect, experimentation, and the ability of journalists to follow and investigate journalism in the interest of the public.

Besides, with robots, there are credibility, biasness, and most importantly, quality issues as well.

An algorithm can't fulfill the role of a "watchdog," which assigns journalists the task of ensuring that government and society are operating at their optimal levels.

What are the possibilities for growth?

Aside from the fact that robot journalists lack human abilities such as analytical skills and creativity, they also lack judgment and clarity in their reporting.

Because artificial intelligence systems are developing at a rapid rate, they still lack these human skills, and you as media and communication industry students have these skills, you can hone and improve them so that you can fill this gap. Consequently, this is where you come in. It's also possible to shape the media and communication sectors through study and design. In order to keep up with the continuously changing media and communication industries, you can investigate the current trends and contribute to molding this field, so that you can fit in entirely. To keep up with the ever-changing nature of your talents, you have to constantly rethink and revise them.

That’s all for now. Thanks for reading.
