Master of Public Health, or MPH for short, is a professional degree that requires completion of a bachelor's degree before it may be awarded. In several nations, admission to an MPH program is restricted to medical graduates alone; however, for the sake of this article, we are focusing on Master of Public Health programs offered by US universities.
The Master of Public Health degree is a graduate-level program that focuses on the practical aspects of public health. The goal of this program is to prepare students for their future roles in raising community awareness of the issues that are related to health and safety, such as contagious diseases, injury prevention, and violence prevention.
As per the Association of Schools of Public Health (ASPH), accredited MPH programs must include the essential subjects of epidemiology, environmental health, policy, behavioural sciences, and statistics/biostatistics. Even though MPH programs cover a wide range of subjects, graduates are well-prepared for successful careers in any area of public health.
In addition to basic themes, students may be required to take courses on toxicology, program assessment, health care administration, and diversity concerns.
Because MPH programs are applied degree programs, students must participate in work-related activities. This could be an internship or hands-on learning opportunity in which students perform duties related to a public health career under supervision.
Numerous post-secondary schools offer specialised MPH degree programs, which can afford graduates greater professional options. Pupils have the option of selecting a curriculum that provides them with specialised training in more unusual specialisations, including toxicology, infectious diseases, public health education, maternal/child health, disaster management, or one of the classic core disciplines.

Without public health experts, we would still be living in the Middle Ages when it came to immunisations and access to clean water. The wide range of applications in this broad discipline may surprise prospective students. Those who choose to embrace it should anticipate having meaningful and rewarding professions as well as making a big, lasting difference in their communities and the world at large.
