Describe an occasion when you got incorrect information cue card- sample answer 1

Introduction

Today, we are bombarded with information from all kinds of sources. The Internet is a good source of information nowadays, as it contains all kinds of material. However, various sources of information, such as one-on-one conversations, are still valued and considered a good source of information.

When did you get it?

One such incident happened when I was approached by a consultancy firm for a job opportunity. I was delighted by the phone call as I was actively looking for jobs at the time. This happened in December, and I had just gotten out of a bad job experience.

How did you get it?

These days, there are various job portals available on the internet wherein we can easily upload our resumes, and people from different companies can approach us, or we can approach them according to availability. Because of those job portals, the consultancy got my number and approached me with an opportunity.

How did you find out it was incorrect?

I started the job upon the consultancy’s consideration. The owner assured me that the work would be easy and that I would gradually extend my work with proper training and guidance.

I did my work with due diligence, but when it was time to release my salary, they became unresponsive and delayed it every day. The worst bit was that when I approached the consultancy with the issues, they ignored them, and both the owners shifted the responsibility to the other person; this is when I was sure that all the promises and things said by these people were wrong.

How do you feel about it?

I felt bad about the time and effort which I put into doing their work while destroying my mental health. Rather than being upset about the lost money, I was more concerned about my time and how I could have invested that elsewhere in better things. I understood the true meaning of a toxic work environment because of the owner and the team leader.

Conclusion

To conclude, I learnt my lesson and understood that before joining any company, I should be thorough with the details and talk about all those things with people around me before indulging myself in the work. It was a life lesson I will always always keep in mind.

Describe an occasion when you got incorrect information cue card- sample answer 2

Introduction

People rely on information to make certain decisions for themselves. However, people in authority should be careful about the information they pass on to their subordinates because that information can alter their careers as well. Moving forward, I will discuss one such incident with you.

When did you get it?

This incident happened while searching for computer courses to strengthen my resume. On the internet, I found many such coaching for it as well. On further research, I came across this place with the highest number of Google ratings. I went to the place to inquire more about the courses and everything else.

How did you get it?

I came across the place with the help of the internet, as the place claimed to have the highest number of job placements and the best courses with proper duration.

How did you find out it was incorrect?

When I went to the place to visit for admission, I came across a scene where an ex-employee accused them of certain things that piqued my interest, and I heard him very well. He accused them of looting the students with high fees and not providing proper education. Being an employee, he knew the ins and outs of the company. After he was thrown out of the building, I followed him and asked him everything wherein he also showed me a proof of why he was upset. I then asked the students studying there, and they also had serious issues with the institutions.

How do you feel about it?

I feel relieved that I received the right information at the right time, otherwise, I would have been very sad that I wasted my parents' money and got nothing out of it. I felt that God was in my favour, and without paying any money and before any procedure, I could gather the right information and escape a bad situation at the right time.

Conclusion

To conclude, I would say that nowadays, everyone relies on Google reviews a lot, but they are not always appropriate. It is necessary to make decisions through research and knowledge. For instance, if I had paid or registered online, I would have been lured into the coaching centre's false promises. Therefore, it is important to be well aware of the information before making any career decisions.

IELTS Speaking Part 3- Follow-up questions

Question- What was your emotional response upon discovering the mistake?

Answer- When I realised what had happened, I was both surprised and irritated. I was displeased with the consulting firm for giving false information, especially about a career opportunity of this importance. I accepted that I would lose out on an opportunity that may have helped me in the future, but I also felt a feeling of resignation at the same moment.

Question- What are some methods to verify the accuracy of information?

Answer- In-depth web research is one of the most efficient ways to confirm the accuracy of information. Using reputable websites, official announcements, or event-related social media platforms can help verify the information and keep track of any updates or changes. In addition, participating in internet forums or groups associated with the event might yield insightful personal accounts.

Question- What steps did you take after realising the error?

Answer- Upon discovering the error, I promptly contacted the consultancy firm that helped me get hired to seek clarification and express my dissatisfaction. I aimed to comprehend why the misinformation had occurred and whether any measures could be taken to resolve the issue. Moreover, I ensured that I wanted a proper contract indicating all the information along with the rules and regulations. In addition, I asked for compensation for the harassment and loss of time.

Question- What takeaways did you gain from this experience?

Answer- I learned from this experience to use caution when relying on information from other sources. It made me realise how crucial it is to double-check facts and communicate well to prevent misunderstandings.

Question- What is the difference between giving information by phone and email?

Answer- While providing details via email creates a written record that may be consulted later, providing information over the phone allows for instant communication and clarification. Email provides for more structured and precise information exchange, but phone talks are more intimate and allow for non-verbal indications and tone of voice.
