Describe a toy you liked in your childhood - sample answer 2

Introduction

I liked playing with toys like every other child when I was little. My parents and other close family members gave me toys every birthday. So, today, I will talk about a toy that I used to like.

What kind of toy is it?

The PlayStation is my favourite toy because it offers a large selection of free video games. I first fell in love with it at the age of thirteen, when I played it at my friend’s house.

When did you receive it?

When I was a teenager, my grandfather got it for me. It was the first video game that I got. I was on cloud nine when I got it because I'd been waiting for this for a long time. It was my favourite of all the gifts I received that day.

How did you play it?

I used to connect to my television and play video games primarily on weekends and vacations. I usually played them at night because my grandparents were with us, and they used to watch television to pass the time, so they wouldn't let me play during the daytime.

How did you feel about it?

I felt proud when I shared it with my friends in front of the one who mocked us at some point. I also shared it with my friends who did not have it, and the smiles on their faces revealed how delighted they were, which made me happy even more.

IELTS Speaking Part 3 - Follow-up questions

Question: What is your opinion on kids playing with electronic toys and impact of those toys on kids?

Answer: Yes, playing with electronic toys has several benefits for children's lifestyles. First and foremost, when children interact with electronic toys, they visualise how to use that product for the first time, even though they prefer to read the manual that comes with the toys. They also follow all of the instructions and assemble all of the electronic items as per their imagination; as a result, children can develop more cognitive and innovative skills quickly.

Question: How are toys today different to toys of the past?

Answer: We rarely see toys from the past; youngsters in our generation prefer to play with computerised toys more. Toys from the past provided both physical and mental exercises. But nowadays, youngsters play with toys while sitting in one location, with no physical activity.

Question: If you were going to give a present to a child, what would you give him?

Answer: If I have to give toys to the child, I prefer to give puzzle games, which will make them curious about solving them and help develop their minds.

Question: What are the major differences between girls' and boys’ toys?

Answer: There are many differences between girls' and boy’s toys. For example, girls generally own toys like Barbie sets, doctor sets, accessories, etc. On the other side, boys mainly prefer toys like video games, cars, and electronic items.

Question: Some parents don't spend much time with their children but instead give cold gifts as a way to show their love. Do you think this is good enough?

Answer: Yes, nowadays, parents spend little time with their children since they work. However, it is not good enough for them to spend at least an hour with their children; they must interact with them. Also, I feel that giving them cold gifts is not the best way to express their affection. They must take some time to interact with their kids.

Question: Do you think toys really help in children’s development?

Answer: Yes, toys do play an important role in developing children's minds. Various toys, like puzzle games, force kids to think and use their brains while arranging them. Apart from this, certain engaging toys also help develop creativity and the power of visualisation, which in turn aid in their cognitive development. As a result, they become smarter while playing with their toys.

Question: Do you think parents should motivate children to share their toys with other kids?

Answer: Yes, if children share their toys, they will learn the habit of sharing things with one another. It is nothing but fun learning that will help them learn good life lessons. Apart from this, sharing toys also allows kids to have access to various toys and learn new things from them.

Question: In general, do children today have many toys?

Answer: Yes, children do have many toys nowadays because when children are unsure about the toys they want to play with, they tend to gravitate toward everything they see. Apart from this, they also get bored of toys very easily. Even if they have the same toy, they prefer to purchase toys of a different colour. For this simple reason, they could purchase more toys.
