Once you complete your response to the cue card topic, which is the third part of the speaking test, the examiner will also ask you some follow-up questions related to the same topic. A common question in the IELTS exam is, "Describe a film you watched or a film that impressed you a lot." In this blog, let's examine some sample responses to this cue card.

Well, one of my favourite things to do for self-entertainment is to watch movies. Although I have seen many films in my lifetime, including action, comedy, romance, and more, I want to talk about a movie I saw and found to be really impressive now. This movie was “Taare Zameen Par”.
The movie "Taare Zameen Par" really touched me. I saw it at home with my family on the occasion of Children’s Day last year. It was well-loved by many people, so I was curious about why it was so special.
The story is about an 8-year-old boy named Ishaan Awasthi, who has dyslexia. This makes it hard for him to read and write, and his artistic talents are misunderstood by his parents and teachers. He feels frustrated due to the negligence he faced. Everything changes when a new art teacher named Ram Shankar Nikumbh, played by Aamir Khan, sees Ishaan's condition and helps him discover his true talents.
I wanted to watch "Taare Zameen Par" because people said it was a heartfelt movie about dyslexia, a topic that many people don't understand well. I felt that the movie gave a very important message for society to understand.
Watching the movie was an excellent experience for me. It shows Ishaan's emotional journey as he struggles with school and self-esteem. Darsheel Safary's acting as Ishaan is touching and makes you understand what he's going through. Aamir Khan's role as a supportive teacher is also very inspiring. What I liked the most about the movie is how it raises awareness about dyslexia and shows the challenges that children who learn differently face. The movie teaches us to be kind and patient and to appreciate everyone's unique talents, not just their grades. It made me think about how important it is to understand and support kids who are different.
Overall, "Taare Zameen Par" is a movie that touched my heart and helped me understand more about the struggles of people with learning disabilities.

The film that left a lasting impression on me is "Dangal," a remarkable Bollywood movie that captivated me with its powerful storytelling and inspiring theme.
I first watched "Dangal" a few years ago during its theatrical release at a cinema in my hometown. The buzz surrounding the film was immense, and I was drawn to it primarily because of its unique plot based on the true story of Indian wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat and his daughters, Geeta and Babita Phogat.
The movie revolves around Mahavir Singh Phogat, a former wrestler who dreams of winning a gold medal for India in wrestling. However, unable to fulfil his own dream due to family circumstances, he decides to train his daughters to achieve this goal. The story follows the journey of Geeta and Babita Phogat as they break societal stereotypes and get intense training under their fathers to become world-class wrestlers and bring medals.
What struck me the most about "Dangal" was its portrayal of strong female protagonists challenging traditional gender norms. The film beautifully captures the struggles and victories of the Phogat sisters, breaking barriers and achieving success in a male-dominated sport. The performances by Aamir Khan as Mahavir Singh Phogat and the actresses playing Geeta and Babita were exceptional, adding depth and emotion to the narrative.
While watching Dangal, I was touched by the characters' emotions and relationships. The movie not only showed the physical toughness of wrestling but also explored the feelings and struggles of the Phogat family. The determination and strength shown by the characters left a big impression on me, and it made me think about how ambition and hard work can lead to success.
Moreover, "Dangal" celebrated perseverance and challenged the idea that women can't achieve big dreams. The movie's message of empowerment and breaking stereotypes left me feeling motivated and inspired.
In conclusion, "Dangal" is a movie that really impressed me with its engaging story, great performances, and powerful theme. It shows how people can overcome challenges to reach their goals and proves that nothing is impossible. This film is one of my favourites because it's not just entertaining but also has a strong message that stays with you.

One movie that really impressed me was 3 Idiots. It's a Bollywood film that had a big impact with its interesting story and meaningful messages.
I first watched "3 Idiots" several years ago during a movie night with friends at home. The film had already gained immense popularity, and I was curious to see what made it so special.
"3 Idiots" is a comedic drama about the lives of three engineering students, Rancho, Farhan, and Raju, at a top-rated engineering college in India. The story primarily focuses on Rancho's unorthodox and innovative approach to education, which contrasts with the conventional and stressful academic environment. The film dives into themes of friendship, the importance of following passion, and the pressure of societal expectations in education and career choices.
I chose to watch "3 Idiots" because of its popularity for being both entertaining and meaningful. The film promised a fresh take on the Indian education system and the challenges students face in pursuing their dreams instead of just falling into the typical societal norms.
Watching "3 Idiots" was really enjoyable. The film's mix of humour, emotions, and social commentary left me feeling inspired and positive. Aamir Khan's character, Rancho, is inspiring and challenges the audience to think differently about success and happiness. The relationship between the main characters and their college experiences felt relatable to me.
What I liked most about "3 Idiots" was how it criticises the rigid education system that focuses too much on memorisation and not enough on creativity. The movie shows the importance of pursuing what you love and being yourself instead of jollowing what society expects.
In summary, "3 Idiots" is a movie that entertained me and made me think about life and education. Its story, great acting, and important messages make it a timeless favourite for many people. "3 Idiots" encourages us to embrace our uniqueness, follow our dreams, and challenge societal expectations to find true happiness and fulfilment.

Below are some follow-up questions related to the cue card topic: “Describe a film you watched or a film that impressed you a lot”.
Question: What are other ways to watch movies now?
Answer: These days, there are a variety of ways to see movies besides theatres. You may watch a huge collection of movies at home or on your mobile device using online streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+ Hotstar, and others. Movie channels are available on both cable and satellite TV. In addition, although they are less widespread these days, DVDs and Blu-ray discs are still in use. Additionally, a few individuals also use cable companies' video-on-demand services to watch movies.
Question: What kinds of films do young people particularly like?
Answer: The majority of the younger generation wants to experience the problems they encounter in real life, so they watch movies based on reality and real-life happenings. In addition, they enjoy action, comedy, horror, and romance films since these give them a relaxing diversion from their hectic schedules.
Question: Do different age groups like the same sort of films now?
Answer: No, I don't believe that the same movie genres appeal to different age groups. When it comes to children, they enjoy watching fantasy and highly stylised animated films. In addition, young people enjoy watching comedic films, documentaries about political topics, and daring films for entertainment value. Furthermore, films focusing on historical events and faiths are highly preferred by the older age.
Question: Do you think that certain movies are not meant for each and every age group?
Answer: To answer your question, making children watch every film released is inappropriate. The concepts conveyed in movies that focus primarily on crime or horror may be difficult for young audiences to understand if they are not yet mature enough to maintain their sense of boundaries.
Question: What kinds of films are popular in India?
Answer: While many different kinds of films are popular in India, Bollywood films, particularly those that combine romance, drama, and good music, have always had a particular place in the hearts of many Indians. Regional cinema, such as that produced in Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, and Malayalam, is also becoming more and more well-liked due to its rich cultural diversity and variety of storylines. Along with films that address social and modern themes, action, thriller, and biography genres have all seen increases in popularity in recent years.
Question: Do you think that the impact of movies on people is two-fold? Why?
Answer: Absolutely, I believe that movies have an effect on us that is both positive and negative. Some of our favourite characters, superheroes, provide us with life lessons. They provide us with the inspiration and ideas to turn everything around for the better rather than just waiting for things to go our way. They have the power to stimulate the economy, inspire individuals, and deepen our understanding of the world. However, viewing films can promote violence and bad habits, dangerous behaviours and send the wrong signals to the wider public. Thus, the effects of movies on society are multifaceted.
Question: What do you think of violent films?
Answer: First off, there's a chance that violent films will influence young people's behaviour negatively. An increased level of hostility may develop in someone who often watches violent films. They also lose all sense of reality and show no empathy for those who have suffered harm. Perhaps what draws people in with violence is the tension and suspense it creates. Another theory is that people would rather take a lesson from the movie and try to make society a better place to live.
Question: What’s the difference between American movies and movies from your country?
Answer: The films from my country and those from the America differ greatly. In my country, India, movies are frequently made in multiple languages, such as Hindi and English. American films, on the other hand, tend to have a large budget and a distinct culture, use a lot of effects, and cast a number of well-known actors. In India, producers love to develop culturally-based films and showcase the abilities of the local community. Aside from that, Americans enjoy making films primarily about robotics or ruction, while Indians prefer to depict actual events.
