Canada has always been a student-friendly country that welcomes a large number of international students every year. It has always been a place that takes into account the students' personal, financial and emotional needs. For students who are planning to study in Canada this year or any upcoming year, we have some good news. The country is opening doors to bringing your family to stay with you now.
Recently, under the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP), Canada saw a significant increase of approximately 60% new permanent residents in January 2022. In January 2022, the PGP welcomed 1300 permanent residents, which increased to 2,065 new ones in January 2023. Continuing this, Canada hopes to bring in 28,500 new permanent residents in 2023 under the said program. This estimate is around 132% more than that in 2021.
The Immigration Level Plans 2023-2025 of Canada also target welcoming around 465,000 permanent residents in 2023. According to reports, Canada welcomed more than 50,000 new residents. This is 44% more than the newcomers welcomed into the country in January last year. A large number of this immigration target will be under the category of family sponsorship. The country has already welcomed around 13,000 new arrivals under the PGP and the children/spousal sponsorship.

Sponsorship of a parent or grandparent's immigration to Canada is available to Canadian citizens and permanent residents. A parent or grandparent will be given permanent residency in Canada if accepted under this program, and they may eventually be eligible to seek Canadian citizenship. Certain criteria must be fulfilled to be eligible for this program. The program has been there for quite a while now, but it has suddenly seen a big boom.
The PGP 2023 specifications have yet to be made public by the IRCC. Prior to this year, IRCC used a lottery approach to randomly choose which potential sponsors would get an Invitation to Apply (ITA) via the PGP.
Canada is one of the best study-abroad destinations with its academic excellence, immigration-friendly laws, and rich and diverse study culture. Every year many international students choose to study in Canada, given its unique features. Canada provides PR to a lot of skilled international students working in the country after completing their studies. Now, with the PGP program, international students studying in Canada or planning to do so can bring their parents or grandparents to live with them after completing their studies. This is a good opportunity to not feel homesick and live comfortably with your family.

The Super Visa is an alternative to the PGP. This enables grandparents and parents of immigrants turned Canadian citizens to enter the country as guests for up to five years after their original trip without having to reapply for status.
Parents and grandparents with a Super Visa will be eligible to request an extension, permitting them to stay in Canada as visitors for up to seven years. They can also enter Canada several times for up to ten years. All year long, the Super Visa is accessible.
