Studying abroad in US universities is a big dream for many international students and is quite an overwhelming thing for many young minds.
While planning to study abroad in the USA, the first thing that international students have to complete is the academic eligibility criteria. Without fulfilling them, it is impossible to study in USA.
If we talk about the Indian education system, most bachelor’s degrees last for 3 years. However, in the US, universities may ask for a 4 year bachelor’s degree. So in this blog, let’s discuss whether Indian students can apply for Masters degree courses in the US with 15 years of education (12 + 3).

Yes, it is possible to apply to US universities for a master's degree with a three-year degree from another country. However, it's important to note that all universities have their own admission requirements and policies. Let’s explore various ways to apply to US universities with a 3-year bachelor’s degree.
Your 3-year bachelor’s degree will be considered eligible for admission in the US if you have received it from a NAAC accredited university. You will be a strong candidate if this university is in the A+ grade category and if you have scored higher than 60% as these qualifications are a testament to a strong academic profile.
NAAC stands for the National Assessment and Accreditation Council, which is an independent body in India responsible for assessing and accrediting higher education institutions. NAAC accreditation is a quality assurance process that evaluates universities and colleges based on various parameters to ensure their academic excellence and overall institutional performance.
The accreditation process involves a comprehensive assessment of the institution's infrastructure, curriculum, teaching-learning practices, research output, student services, governance, and other aspects. The NAAC assigns a grade or rating to the institution based on its performance, which ranges from A++ (highest) to C (lowest).
Another way to apply to US universities with a 3 year bachelor’s degree is through WES evaluation. If you haven’t completed your bachelor’s from a NAAC accredited university, then you may require a WES evaluation to be admitted to US universities. Now, let’s explore what WES evaluation is.
WES evaluation stands for World Education Services evaluation. It is a non-profit organisation dedicated to evaluating and validating academic credentials. The WES evaluation is commonly used by students who have completed their education in another country and wish to have their educational credentials recognized by the universities in US.
The purpose of a WES evaluation is to determine the equivalency of the educational credentials of a student’s home country to the educational standards of the United States. The evaluation report provided by WES also includes information about the individual's educational background, the authenticity of the documents, and the comparability of the credentials to the respective education system in the US.
Some universities may require applicants with a three-year degree to complete additional coursework or demonstrate equivalent qualifications to meet the minimum educational requirements for admission. This could involve completing a postgraduate diploma or taking specific courses to make up for the missing year of education.
