Texas Wesleyan University was founded by the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, in 1890.A committee under the direction of Bishop Joseph S. Key explored locations for a campus and settled on a site east of Fort Worth donated by area pioneers, A.S. Hall, W.D. Hall, and George Tandy. Originally called Polytechnic College — which literally means “many arts and sciences” — the school held its first classes in September 1891, with a handful of faculty members and 111 students.
Students and staff jumped in a Uber and on a beautiful Saturday night (April 22, to be exact) and headed to downtown St. Petersburg to take in a Tampa Bay Rowdies game. Since we had a little time to kill we had our Uber driver drop us off at Joey Brooklyn’s, New York Pizzeria. While our pizza was being made we walked around the city a bit. Taking in the music, crowds and energy of this old southern city. Arriving back just in time for our pizza to come out of the oven piping hot, we had a quick bite then off to the match.

Cameron University’s history is rooted in Oklahoma’s statehood. In 1908, one year after Statehood, Oklahoma became a state, the Oklahoma Legislature created six agricultural high schools in each judicial district. The Cameron State School of Agriculture was named for the Rev. E. D. Cameron, a Baptist minister and Oklahoma’s first State Superintendent of Schools. The first classes were held on Statehood Day, November 16, 1909, in the basement of a bank building while a new campus building was constructed.
